Testing to better understand comprehension
I was hoping that we could get some discussion going when it comes to the testing part of the learning process. The Dunning-Kreuger effect is one example of where the testing effect is especially noticeable. For those of you that are unaware, the Dunning-Kreuger effect is where people who are novices at a skill overestimate their abilities as a result of how little they actually know. The way they actually get past this overestimation is through testing their knowledge, something which forces them to see how little they actually know. From our meeting it sounds like testing would usually fall under level 5, Practice, but I was wondering if there may be other places or ways to think of testing knowledge.
Fascinating!
This also reminds me of the planning fallacy. That humans tend to vastly underestimate things like time needed to finish a project or task.
What about 'testing' a Habit Action? From our Habit Action Plans, we see various elements of each Habit Action (Reminder, Regimen, Reward, Environment, i+1 Moment, etc.)
Changing these elements intentionally could put our Habit Actions to the test!
Or your Grow Meditation action is totally solid? Well what happens when you intentionally change WHERE (environment) you do it? Or when (reminder)? Et cetera.
This could help us overcome the Automaticity Asymptotes that happen whenever you try to make a behavior automatic. Currently, our main strategy of attack is "Level Up" (see: i+1 Journal, Page titled "Level 2 Habits and Beyond") but this 'testing' could prove to be a useful tool in our Habit Actions Toolkit!
Thought this way...
..."Testing" our habits intentionally to promote further growth through an intended external stressor (be it temporary or permanent)...
...could be done across ALL 15 Habit Levels!
