i+1 Braindump for - "Why Only ABC?" + "DEF - Keeping Things in Periphery"
A, B, C, colon, Y, just three, type post. So why have we said that there should be only three tasks? Why is it A, B, C, and not A, B, C, D, E, F? Well, it all comes down to cognitive load theory. Because as humans, we have limits. Because each goal is at least their most relevant subproject to simultaneously mentally juggle. We're doing our A daily to help accomplish X part of my A weekly, which can also be related to A monthly in and of itself, end parentheses, hyphen. So there we have at least A daily with A weekly, B daily with B weekly, C daily with C weekly, which are six different things to sort of juggle at the same time. If our working memory is really only limited to at most seven items, we're basically already at our limit without even considering any overarching A, B, or C monthly. That's why we have a level six habit, where we just plan, and a level seven, which is the accomplishment for the day, completing them. And at the end of the day, we also strive to creatively move A, B, C projects into daily habitual tasks. Here, we would want to put in...
Quotes from the I plus one, Aristotle, you are what you do, and then the other one about you want it done, do it that day. So it makes sense, the other projects and responsibilities and new identities, we then have to creatively create space to tackle them amongst new daily habits, only serves to keep our working memory free for planning, right, so we can kind of deload that cognitive load that we have by using our level six and level seven habits. So then we can sort of free up some mental RAM for more planning and to think about our ABC monthlies as well.
Another type of post could be about DEF identity work, Anki extra fields, and keeping items in our peripheral vision, period. That would be the title. So why DEF? So if we've decided that we're limiting it to really thinking about three at a time of these projects, why am I talking about DEF? Well, in many of my note programs, I will write out DEF as these subprojects to kind of keep them into my peripheral understanding, my peripheral vision here. Either subprojects, a bigger one, or simple one-off type of tasks. Sometimes I'll get to them, sometimes I won't. But it's amazing, and we also see that with identity work. Things that I wrote down as goals months out, even ones that I haven't fully fleshed out their own quarterly, yearly, I haven't really gotten them into either the ABC plan system or the daily habit system, but still sometimes they'll get accomplished because they're really getting into my subconscious, they're in the back, maybe because I've written them so many times, but either way, they're getting done. So however they're getting done, they're still getting done, which is really an excellent sort of side effect.
This really does all make sense though, because what is the I plus one all about? It's all about learning to speak the language of your subconscious. That's why it's brain 2.0, that's why it's the I plus one. Brain 2.0 kind of helps us externalize everything that we want to learn and everything we don't want to forget. The I plus one helps us now speak with our subconscious and clan meetings even externalize it further to other people and allow us to share our goals with other people. So even this idea of service and gratitude and this extra service to others by teaching them of course serves to reinforce your own self-mastery. That idea of having a why, the I plus one aspect of the Aka method is about learning how to reprogram yourself in order to achieve these goals and of the three I plus one paths identity work is what stays longest in the periphery as it is over a year at minimum and a lifetime at maximum. By integrating it into our ABC plans and making it a daily habit however at level 15 you're further intertwining these paths and helping it stay in the periphery, stay at least in our conscious awareness at some point. With occasional spotlight check-ins when necessary, deliberate focuses, maybe that's one of the daily habits to benefit from the rich tapestry of self-confidence, self-compassion and true purpose that it can bring. Having a why like Nietzsche said can help us overcome any how and any what. At the end of the day that's what matters and that's what will help us on our I plus one journey.
