Potential way to help teach languages...

I am pretty sure it has been done before, but I was wondering if there would be another way to teach basic conversational skills without relying on English at all. For example, all the anki decks we have only rely on the language to be learned and pictures to get concepts across, which is something I like a lot. The one thing I was thinking which would be pretty useful would be to have something like short sentences one would say paired with a short video clip of someone doing said action. For example, instead of reading "hola senor" and seeing "hello sir" printed underneath you would see a video of someone walking up and greeting a man and then have the audio and sentence both in Spanish as alternate cards. Another example would be if you wanted to show how to order a cheeseburger you could show someone looking up at a menu on which you would highlight the picture and info of the cheeseburger before they would say "Uno hamburgesa con queso, por favor". Does anyone know if this kind of thing has been done in this way before? I imagine it could be pretty useful to have an anki deck of video cards to be able to combine spaced repetition with video cards, but lack the evidence to back my beliefs.

This could be an epic idea! One issue though is just general confusion, it would have to use such symbology as to be constantly based on atomic building blocks. Since there is a lot that can get confused once you add more and more words.
Even images for HE and HIM and MAN are quite similar and its already a challenge to distinguish them.
Also at some point, the advantages of 'full immersion' like that start to drop off, as in, it can take longer to learn.
Now years later, would they better off? Thats something to see perhaps once we have a large enough userbase we could even try A/B testing!

Those are definitely some valid points, it would definitely be easier for much more simple scenarios or with sentences where students were already familiar with the majority of the words used in sentences. I do wonder how one would be able to determine what kinds of sentences to make and use to minimize confusion, surely there could be a systematic approach to it.

It would need to be very personal. Since once you get complicated enough, its going to get complicated hah.
